I have enjoyed playing music and singing since childhood. I was a member of the marching band and choir at Presentation School, Carlow and took part in Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann competitions and concerts. Afterwards, I studied music at National University of Ireland, Maynooth and graduated with a B.A. Music in 2001. I then moved to the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance at the University of Limerick and completed a Graduate Diploma in Education (Music).
I subsequently undertook a Masters in Chant and Ritual Song at U.L. which included a semester in Ithaca College, New York. In 2009 I graduated from St Patrick’s College, Maynooth with a Higher Diploma in Theology. During October 2015 I completed a Diploma in Italian Language and Culture at The National University of Ireland, Galway.
During September 2003 I joined the teaching staff of the Royal School, Cavan and in 2014 I transferred to Heywood Community School, Co Laois.
In June 2022, I was awarded a Postgraduate Diploma in School Leadership (1st Class) by the University of Limerick.
